Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

After a motivational speech Jack and Tom were fired up to do the King's Canyon Rim walk. 6.5 km of climbing up rocky steps, around the rim and down into the garden of Eden then back to the carpark in sweltering conditions fueled by lollies and water. Tom did a great job and only complained once about 200 metres from the finish line. He carried a very self satisfied grin for the rest of the day.

We decided to tackle the Mereenie Loop which involved 120km of unsealed road to Alice Springs. Challenging is one way to describe the journey- maybe stupid is another way to describe it! The van was shaken around like a milkshake causing a few screws to undo and a few things in the fridge to break. However we were rewarded with a night at Glen Helen Gorge - the boys spent the afternoon playing in river followed by a BBQ with lots of French tourists. Jack spent an hour explaining the rules of AFL to a very receptive French couple on their honeymoon

We left Glen Helen the next morning and visited Ormiston Gorge and the Ochre Pits on the way to Alice.

The Ochre Pits are a special area for the Aborigines to collect different coloured ochre for ceremonial purposes.

We got to Alice and the boys disappeared to play on the jumping pillow and we have hardly seen them since. They have made some friends who live in Seaford!
