Darwin Part 1

I had no idea what to expect when we got to Darwin. I was pleased to be back in a city after so long out in the bush. Darwin is a bit like a big country town in a lot of ways, the people are friendly and it actually reminded me a bit of Singapore or Hong Kong on a much smaller scale. We all really enjoyed staying in Darwin. We need to come back as we didn't manage to see everything even in a week! I have to say the thing that Michael and I liked the best was the warm nights. Very conducive to drinking, we reckon you would quickly become an alcoholic living here! The down side of the warm nights however were a couple of very hot and humid days.

The first thing we saw in Darwin was the waterfront area which they are in the process of developing. They have a lagoon and a wave pool which the boys really enjoyed. Most of the really close beaches are rocky and you can't swim for a lot of the year due to the box jellyfish and also the ever present threat of crocs.

The next day we checked out Berry Springs with the Walker family which is a park just outside of Darwin. The kids spent ages snorkeling and checking out the fish.

The next day we went to Leanyer Water Park which is just like the Geelong Adventure Park except FREE! It was a great day out with a massive skate park next door so it really was a Brookes boys paradise.

Wednesday night was spent at the Darwin Trailer Boat Club with some friends we made in Alice Springs. Richard and Louise and their 2 daughters live in Darwin but Louise grew up in Highett. The Boat Club was right on the water with an excellent playground, good food and another amazing sunset over the sea.
